A while back the fellow who was in charge of the
amateur gear at Radio Shack when they first bought out
Allied came over from Fort Worth to trade with me. He
was involved with the AX-190 / SX-190 receivers that
Trio, now Kenwood, made for Allied and then, for a
little while, Radio Shack. He confirmed that the plan
was to import the matching transmitter for the AX-190
but that was abandoned shortly after Radio Shack
bought out Allied.

The AX-190 has the outputs just like the Heath SB-300
/ SB-301. That is, the BFO, VFO, and heterodyne
oscillator. In fact, it wouldn't be that hard to make
a homebrew transmitter that would be controlled by the
AZ-190.

At Dayton, I think I overheard the RS spokesman saying
his company would soon introduce new ham gear. I
didn't hear specifics. Could be he was telling us what
he thought we wanted to hear...who knows. The rep was
a ham, though, as he had his callsign on his badge.
