[Boatanchors] Collins receiver distortion

Grant,
Sometimes the top of the line receiver, be it perception or reality, is outdone
in different areas by models lower in the food chain. The Hallicrafters tended
to be better designed and engineered when William Halligan, Sr. was personally
keeping an eye on things. He says in the exclusive video I have from November
1983 that one reason Hallicrafters got so many military contracts was because of
his constant focus on quality control and expecting the employees to show up and
do their jobs well every day. The Hallicrafters technology was still being
produced under the Northrup name for the many military contracts Northrup got
from Hallicrafters, as late as 1985. Probably later, but that is the last date I
personnally can verify.
What is interesting is to look back at who 'borrowed' what technology from the
actual developer and marketed it! Sarnoff, Armstrong, Halligan and others spent
more time in the Courts than many realize!
It seems like each company had one particular strong suit, for audio it is Drake
I hear most often mentioned.

Got me to thinking how nice it would be to have SX-115 electronics in a 75A4
form factor. I know that's heresy to those who consider the 75A4 to be
close to the zenith of receiver design. I really like the 75A4 looks, dial,
and tuning feel, although I'd much rather listen to an SX-115.
