Subject: [Boatanchors] opinion on sopces?

anyone have an opinion between two scopes? One I think is beautiful is the
tek 454 150mhz. The other is more modern 475 200mhz. Other than the bw
difference which I am not sure I need, the 454 is just beautiful!

Anyone give me advice if the 454 is "good enuf" for ham work or should I
definitely go with the more modern scope?

thanks
Eugene

I have 2 475's and 1 465, had them for 15-20 years and they have been very
reliable. The 454-485 series are older than the 465-475 and have a smaller
Display. Both contain transistors and IC's, many made by Tektronix. For
repair, you usually need to find a donor scope as the parts can be very
expensive.

I would highly suggest the 475 as not only is it higher bandwidth, but it
has higher sensitivity 2 mv/div instead of 5 mv/div for the 465and has a
bandwidth limit switch so you cannot see the 2 meter band :-)

There is a military version of the 465 and sometimes you can find it
cheaper. The "A" series of the 475 is newer and has a bandwidth of 250 MHz
instead of the 200 MHz for the non A. Both my 475's are not A series, my
465 is a B series and if you do any video work, the 465 has a built in sync
separator to make viewing video signals much easier, and a bandwidth of 100
MHz.

The 475 new cost was $3150 in my 1978 Tek catalog.
