I was a high school novice/general living in NW Chicago in the 60s and
familiar with Trigger then and the later debacle in the 70s. Located on
North Ave in River Forest ILL, an affluent west central Chicago suburb,, I
made many visits but few purchases from the store. That section of North
Ave was a "radio row" at the time, with Olson, Allied and Heathkit branch
stores all within several blocks of Trigger. Trigger had the most used gear
so it was always worth a stop just look and dream, as his prices were
close to the cost of the gear when new! I also recall Mr. Treger was not at
all friendly if you were just a browser. He did have a good supply of 8Mhz
crystals for 6 meters, so occasionally I would purchase one sort of the
price of admission to his store. The many complaints of fraud became
apparent in the early sixties. 73 magazine had many letters and comments
about the problem. On Oct 8, 1976 the Illinois Attorney General filed an
injunction against Mr. Irael Treger, halting any further advertising and
continuation of business. A receiver was appointed to marshall such assets
that would be paid out pro rata to all persons who had complaints on file
with the AG. On a visit home to Chicago in late Oct 1976 I stopped by the
store, it was dark and empty , the end of the line for the infamous dealer.
