[Boatanchors] HELP! The coil slug is stuck!

Bill -
I have successfully (three out of four times anyway!) removed a cracked
slug by fitting a metal Allen wrench of the _exact_ size with a drop
of Super Glue wetting all six sides. (NOT a "drop", just a thin coat on
all sides.) Once dry, the slug backed right out. Twice I was able to
salvage the slug by removing the pieces with acetone and then regluing
them together. The failure was in too many / too small pieces to
recover, but a replacement slug was found.
The problem is that a cracked slug "expands" when you try to turn it.
By gluing the segments to the tool, the slug is prevented from expanding
and turns right out.

>I'd really appreciate any experience-based (preferably successful, :>) suggestions as to how to "unstick" a iron slug that is inside one of the rf alignment slug-tuned coils of my Hallicrafters HT-32A transmitter. During alignment, I was able to initially move it a half turn or so and then it froze up. I'm afraid that if I force it, the slug will crack. What do ya use to "lubricate" the slug exterior (or its cardboard tube) that won't swell it or turn it to mush? Tnx, Bill, wd0x
