Hmmm. Would this not be predicated upon the actual height of the person setting
said type? For example, a Dwarf might well find that the lower case was in fact
really the upper case and that the upper case was in fact the lower case when he
used a six foot step ladder? But Bruce, what about all of those fonts for either
case? What kind of a case can you make for them?

Hello All,

When type was still being set by hand,
the most often used letters were the
small ones, which were put in trays at
a convenient height to reach.  Large
letters were usually kept in cases
above the more frequently used trays
of small letters.  Thus we have
"upper case" and "lower case."
