[Boatanchors] Heath Mohican question

Hi,
Yes, I realize this isn't a "true" boatanchor, but it is 'vintage'
Heathkit.
A friend has just told me that he is giving me a Heathkit Mohican
receiver, electrical condition unknown. So I can presume it'll need work
;-)
This isn't the first Mohican that I've had. I bought one new from
Heathkit and built it sometime back in the late 60's while I was
stationed overseas. That was a Looonngg time ago and my memory is a
little hazy about it. I remember it was a battery portable with big
chrome knobs and slide rule dials.
IF I recall correctly, it was a so-so performer.
Question. Are my memories of the set pretty accurate? Was it just a
"fair" performer or pretty decent. Since this is being given to me, and
having built one originally, there is some "Nostalgia" involved and I'll
probably do my best to restore it as well as I can.
Replies off list are probably best to keep list clutter of this "Non
Boatanchor" to a minimum.
