Hi,

You didn't mention what model radio you were planning to run, but the best 
advice is that if there is a DC supply available for that model, use it. The 12 
to 115V supplies are electrically noisy and generate birdies on many 
frequencies. I was using one to run a laptop for GPS in the car and discovered that it 
was knocking the sensitivity down on my 2 meter rig. When I ran the computer 
on internal batteries, the problem went away..
