The 6146B works fine in the Collins transmitters that
have had the neutralization circuit changed. Also,
they are a direct replacement for the Japanese S-2001A
tubes like are used in the TS-820, etc.

Some of the transmitters that were designed for the
6146 and the 6146A / 8298 do work fine with the 6146B
/ 8298A. However, the majority of transmitters that
were designed for the earlier versions of the 6146 are
definitely not "happy" with the 6146B / 8298A (or any
6146W with a code date of after 1964 while those made
in 1964 may be either the 6146A or 6146B depending on
the manufacturer and when their particular contract
was changed).

If you haven't read the article on the 6146 family of
tubes that appeared in Electric Radio a while back it
can be found on either of the websites the URL of
which appear at the end of this message.

Been reading the reports of the differences of the
6146B and W from the older version so, of what good
are 6146B or W's?
