[Boatanchors] Is this the ULTIMATE SWLing Bandcruiser, or what?

Barry,
I have a recording of Bill Halligan speaking of the SX-73, and some additional
comments by one former Chief Engineer, Fritz Franke. It was even better than you
describe. I think it was ranked super by the military to both the R-390 and HQ
rigs. When Bill was in charge, quality control was a must! Which is why some of
those rigs are still original and playing fifty to sixty years later. The best
products Hallicrafters ever got out of the production lines, when it came to
almost zero errors, were built from 1941-1945 by women.
We all know how Phil can not resist trading something off, and I have it via the
grapevine line that the book makers in Vegas are putting odds on this one!

Phil:
There is another R-274, made by another "H": Hallicrafters. It's sometimes
referred to as the SX-73.
It's a very nice receiver, and a fine band-cruiser (although the band-change
knob will keep your wrist strong).
It does not have the frequency stability of your SP-600, since you have
modified it, nor is it as accurate as my R-390(blank), but it does hear
nearly as well as the R-390, and the audio is better.
Of course, you know that. I just like to remind you every year or so.
