The 8072 was also used in thousands of Motorola 450
MHz 100 watt output FM base stations and repeaters.  I
would suspect that is why so many spares, the company
operated a lot of 450 MHz equipment on their off-shore
drilling rigs.

The 8072 is the same tube as the 8122 except that it
does not have the cooling "fins".  The Motorola
equipment had the plate tuning circuitry attached
directly to the plate.  The heat was then conducted
away.  Most of the Motorola equipment did not use a
fan but relied on conduction for heat dissipation.
