Horrors! A similar thing happend to me after the
purchase of Hallicrafters s-40B. The thing got
banged up pretty good. I filed a claim with UPS. A
week later they sent someone out to pick it up and
send it to their damage assessment center. I
said, okay but it is worth xxdollars. You want to
pay that in cash or may I charge you credit card?
The guy left, a little flustered. Four weeks
later, they paid the claim. I kept the radio,
repaired and restored it, then sold it for
considerably more that I paid for it. I figured
the cash settlement with UPS covered my fee for
restoring the radio.

Thinking back on that experience, the only regret
I have is not having kept the thing. After I got
through with it, it looked brand new and worked
flawlessly. I made money on it, sure, but it was
sort of like getting double price for your seed corn.

I dont use UPS anymore. USPS is not great but I
have never had a problem with them after having
shipped more than 400 items over the last ten
years. Of course, packing is still in the hands
of the shipper. If you cant pack, you should not
ship.

Stay on that. Get the full value of the insurance
applied. After all, you were charged for that
protection. Then use the proceeds to buy another.
This time ship it using a carrier that has
credebility.

I know the feeling, but once the settlement check
is cashed, you are back in bussiness. Consider it
a minor delay in satisfaction.

Good Luck,
