[Boatanchors] Push to talk - Bang! - Any Ideas?

Hi:
 I Have an interesting problem with one of my old Lafayette rigs.
It's an HA 410 10 m AM transceiver.  
The radio is sending and receiving ok but when I release the hand mic switch to go back to receiver there is a very loud "Poink" sound in the speaker, then everything is fine. Almost need earplugs, it's so loud. If anyone has an idea as to how to eliminate that condition I would like to hear from you.
