Another question on tube trivia.
Background: I could not help but notice the similarity of the 807 to the
6BG6G (not GT). Internally, they looked the same. In fact, I had an RCA TV
in the 60s (built in the early 50s) where the 6BG6G went bad, and I wired up
an adaptor for an 807 and it worked great as a sweep tube! Transmitting tube
as a sweep tube--that's a switch! There are some very minor differences in
specs, and a really close examination reveals that some of the materials
used inside the tube are different. Only other major difference was that the
807 could be mounted in any position while the 6BG6 could only be operated
vertically. Dissipation is also a bit lower for the 6BG6G, maybe because of
the plastic base or the continuous duty inside that little metal box in a
TV.
Question: Is the 6BG6G an octal version of the 807?
