And that's not much but at no load the greatest drain might well be the 
exciting current of the power transformer.  This probably is not an 
issue unless the transformer is huge compared to a typical "one 5U4" 
circuit.  If it's homebrew, I need to ask.

Is it marked for make and model?  If not what are the approximate depth 
and diameter?  I'm just trying to get an idea of its ratings, which are 
similar versus size for all brands.  How is it wired?  (What to which 
terminal number?)  If nothing else can you send me a picture?  (That 
won't go to the list.)  And again, what are your location and line 
voltage?  Measured with what?  Which was last calibrated when?  Your 
statement "Variac by itself 115 VAC at max control." makes me wonder.

At this point several things are vague.  Give some info and we'll get 
this sorted out.
