I recently came into possession of a very nice, clean HRO-5TA1 with a complete 
set of coils.  It had been recapped by the previous owner, and works after a 
fashion.  The audio gain is very low, and to my surprise I found that someone 
(not the previous owner) had eliminated the 6J5 1st audio stage and changed 
around the limiter circuitry -- butchered is a better word.  He used the 6J5 
socket for a VR tube!

Anyway, I am slowly trying to put it back the way it was.  I wonder if anyone 
has ever heard of this 'improvement' to the HRO?  Maybe if I knew what had been 
done exactly it would be easier to undo it.
