[Boatanchors] FT-102 transformer needed

If it was just the transformer, it may have been the result of bad
filter capacitors in the power supply,
and for some reason ... maybe too large a fuse was inserted .... the
caps shorted and took out the
power transformer.
I had a similar problem with an HQ 170 receiver that I acquired. I
neglected
to check the fuse value in it. It worked great for a long time.
Then, I set the clock timer to turn on the receiver for warmup at about
6 a.m. one morning and went to bed. The next morning, I went down
to the shack for some operating.... and there was black, tarry oil all
over the bottom of the receiver
and on a portion of the operating table. Upon checking, I found that
the power transformer was
toast. Further investigation revealed the fuse which was WAY over
the specified value....
The filter cap had shorted .... shunting the DC voltage to ground
continuously until the transformer
burned up. It got hot enough to melt the tar in the transformer and
also blew open one of the caps...
resulting in the tarry, oily substance all over....
Needless to say ... I learned a heartbreaking lesson. Always check
a unit thoroughly when you
acquire it... INCLUDING the fuses. We are all tempted to plug in a
new toy and see it light up,
and I was no exception. It worked fine and I thought everything was
just great ... until disaster
occured.
