Live and learn. Yup.

I had heard many folks use Simple Green to clean old rigs.
I did, for the first time on this 1948 rig.

It sat outside for at least 1 week in dry porch weather.
Not enough.

The HV xmfr has only the primary leads under the chassis and the HV leads to
the caps on the 866's top side.
With only 4 screws holding it down, I easily removed it from the chassis.

Put the VTVM from one primary to the case; found my 5 megohms.

Its in a simple metal case with sheet metal screws holding on the metal
sides.
I opened it up.
Home made transformer.
Very nicely made with secondary taps for 750, 1000 and 1500.

And, the side cardboard 'spacers' were ( I hesitate ) wet.

Not only have I heard folks wash their rigs.
They also put them into the home over at 130 for a day or two right
afterwards.

Guess what I'll be baking this weekend during this Thanksgiving season.

Regards,
