Hi Y'all,
this was also sent to the Hallicrafters list.
This morning a fairly nice, working, SX-101 was brought to me for a
"Cleaning of the controls and switches" and general checkout. A quick check
while the owner was here showed it to be playing, but it seems the
sensitivity may be down some.
I've done some previous receivers for the owner and told him that if I felt
it "needed it" I'd replace any paper capacitors etc. After he left I pulled
it out of the cabinet and examined it. As expected it has a "gazillion"
BBODs and pink "Tiny Chiefs". So, I presume a complete re-cap job is in
order. I'd hate to return it to the owner only to have a BBOD fail and let
the smoke out of some "unobtainium" parts 8^(
A couple questions.
1. The set, while in nice overall condition has a rather dirty backside to
the dial glass and S meter glass. How hard is it to pull the front panel for
cleaning? (manual doesn't seem to show that task).
2. Are there any unusual "Gotcha's in this set?
