Clive,
According to a 1954-1955 Radio's Master catalog, the Johnson 232-610 is
a 31 microhenry coil that sold for $8.90. It is "edgewise wound, 1/4"
copper
strip, cadmium plated, glass bonded mica supporting bars. Widely used
commercially, they will safely handle more than 1000 watts in continuous
service." The picture does not show any taps so they were most likely
added
by someone.
BTW, the radio master catalogs show up occasionally on the e-place at very
reasonable prices. They are very handy as reference for all kinds of
boatanchor
parts.
