Even if consumers end up not wanting BPL,  the electric utilities are still 
looking at
it for the purpose of telemetering each individual customer's meter 
readings back
to the billing department, this eliminating the venerable "meter readers."

They have tried to do this over the years, but previous attempts using 
"carrier current"
(BPL is just a modern version of it)  on distribution lines did not work.

Let's hope it still is not worth their effort....
