[Boatanchors] Apache!

Thanks to all on the reflector who squared me away with snagging the BAMA
manual for my recently acquired Apache TX-1.

This evening I finished applying lots more TLC, and then connected a
Heathkit wattmeter and Heath Cantenna dummy load (natch!), and fired her up.
I adjusted the PA bias and hit they key.

The ol' rig works like a champ. I love it!

With the pair of 6146s I popped in there I can get excellent grid drive on
all bands, even more than enough on 10-M.

I can even load the two 6146s to beyond their ratings. Running Class-C they
deliver an easy 150 watts OUTPUT---or more---key down, and the transformers
don't even make a sound. There's no groaning or humming whatsoever. The
thing runs stone cold, with the fan purring gently.

The VFO is quite stable, and the timed-sequence keying on CW sounds
beautiful on my local receiver. No clicks or chirps that I can hear. All the
metering circuits work nicely, too.

My plan is to use the Apache with my HRO-60. The National has a P-P output
stage, pumping into a 15-inch speaker here, so that always sounds FB on
yaa-em. I have a D-104 wired up for my KWM-1, so may make an adapter for the
Apache, or try my original 1959 Lafayette bullet microphone!

Retro City.

...now, where can I find a Mohawk? :-)
