[Boatanchors] BA's 6M and up...

Jeff,
There are a number of "affordable" VHF and up BA rigs available, it's
just a matter of finding them. Don't think of the following as
endorsements, but I can immediately think of the following.

1. Lafayette sold some fairly compact tube type 6 Meter transceivers,
model numbers don't come to mind.
2. Heathkit had a number of rigs for both 6 and two, though I think
'most' of these were AM.
3. The Hammarlund SP-600 (most models) is a very nice receiver that
tunes 6 Meters and is a genuine BA at 60-70 lbs.
4. A number of Hammarlund receivers tuned 6 meters including the HQ-110
& The HQ-170. Hammarlund even sold a version of the HQ-170 that covered
6 & 2 with a nuvistor front end. It was called the HQ-170/VHF.
5. Even Hallicrafters had some receivers covering 6 Meters, my SX-71
does, though you WOULD NOT want to use it for CW or SSB unless you like
listening with one hand on the tuning knob!
6. Swan built a nice little 6 Meter SSB transceiver, though I don't
recall it's model number right now, I 'think' Galaxy did too.
7. There are quite a number of Military Surplus rigs that cover VHF and
UHF. Many of these can be modified to operate 6, 2 or even 440 in some
cases. To check on these you'd probably do best to subscribe to the
MilSurplus email reflecor.

Hope this helps a little.
