Well, it is a surprise to me. I have a VF-1,which is the same VFO,
that works with my DX-40.
It's rock steady. If you are getting the results that you describe then
you have a MECHANICAL
problem, not electrical. You have a loose ground, loose coil assembly,
loose capacitor, wires that are long
enough to vibrate and move around, ETC.
You can do your conversion and STILL have the same problem when you're
done. I've had several
VF-1's, HG-10's and a HOST of HW-100/101's through here that do the same
thing and it's cure is
to FIX the mechanical construction. If you have any floppy wiring, screws
that don't have lockwashers,
etc, this is what you will get, every time. I hate to suggest tearing
apart the radioand rebuilding the VFO,
but that's what you need to do. I'd also suggest using at least #20 busbar
or even #18 and sleeving the wire
as you install it. That in itself will fix a lot of your trouble. The
flimsy #22 and #24 wire originally used was very
prone to moving around when things get bumped and in an oscillator circuit,
it just doesn't make the cut.
Thanks!!
