The advantage of the ceramic head was that it was not bothered as much 
by heat and humidity.  The problem with the crystal head -- particularly 
the ones one might purchase from the extremely high temperature pickup 
hood/bed in an outdoor fleamarket during a summer hamfest is that heat 
damages the element.

On the other hand, I have been led to believe (meaning no personal 
experience here) that the ceramic head does not sound nearly as good 
as the standard crystal head.
