Hi John,
I spoke to the folks at Magnavox a few years ago about that receiver. =
According to the engineers who I spoke with, it is indeed strictly a =
data radio, incapable of receiving or transmitting voice.

Subject: [Milsurplus] RT-1336 Xcvr (Maganavox) (and RBM-5)
Greetings,
During a visit last night, while searching the dungeon and catacombs =
at the
QTH of my pacrat mentor, we came across a RT-1336 225-400MHz xcvr. I
remember that Toronto Surplus had one on the website:
(http://www.torontosurplus.com/com/com10.htm#|42 then look down to =
"M"
for maganavox) for a price that must have been based on weight. This
radio seems to be a data only radio? Has anyone out there had any
experience with it? As it is moving to my home, I was hoping that I =
might
be able to use it as AM RX for mil. air stuff. I ask forgiveness in
advance for posting this on the BA reflector as well, as it does have =
an
LCD display. However, the weight of the beast surely offsets the age
issue.... at least a little.
P.S. In case I forgot anyone, thanks for the many replies to my RBM-5
query. It is in my home now, helping to warm the house this very cold
winter and working just fine.
