The primary "wear" on the RCA is from connecting and
disconnecting the plug from the jack. Frankly, I
don't "touch" the connectors on any of my Collins or
Heath equipment that use RCA connectors for months
(even "years") on end. I don't see where it is
necessary to plug and unplug these connectors very
often. It is very easy to restore an RCA female by
just compressing the connector slightly with a pair of
needle nosed pliers. The same thing works for the
outer connection of the male.

However, if the owner of the equipment wants to modify
it so that the UHF type of connector can be used
he/she is certainly entitled to make the modification.
The same thing for the BNC. I have found a number of
BNC female fittings (the ones that mount in the single
hole) that actually fit the openings that are drilled
in most equipment for the RCA connectors and thus do
not require any enlarging of the hole. At a later
date the RCA fitting can be restored if the owner
wants to reinstall it.

I agree. RCA connectors on the older rigs seem to wear
out on the inner pin connector insulation, making for
a real sloppy fit.
