Don,
I agree. RCA connectors on the older rigs seem to wear out on the inner pin
connector insulation, making for a real sloppy fit. I think they were used
to keep the overall cost down originally and were a simple fit to the RG-58
that was more in vogue at that time, also due to cost. The only downside to
the BNC is they are a real pain to pin on the cable side and not
interchangeable with your newer gear, without an adaptor. Unless your
SB-100 is pristine the resale value like most older gear is not worth
worrying about. It all depends if you want it to use or consider it an
investment. I use, and enjoy using, all my old rigs. I like switching
relays, PTT, and ss rectifiers in an old transmitter and it never seemed to
hurt the resale. My opinion may not be the popular one, but I stand by it.
