[Boatanchors] Speakers

I've recently wanted to replace some large (8"-12") speakers in older equipment 
(National, Hallicrafters, etc.)  The problem is that I only seem to be able to 
buy 'high fidelity' type speakers which are very inefficient compared to the 
originals.  I know that they are 8 ohms impedance instead of the 4 ohms of the 
originals, but even when using an appropriate output transformer, they provide 
much lower volume than the old ones.  However, I am getting to the end of my 
rope using Duco cement on the speaker cones.
