Hi,
The other day I posted a question about the tuning dial. Some suggested
tightening the nut on the shaft ext. That was already as tight as it
would go.
However, I 'think' I've found a fix. While the RF deck was out I
removed both tuning shafts, split washers etc. Both had the same
dimensioned components,
but the main tuning (working) "drive" washers were "concave" while the
malfunctioning ones in the bandspread drive were not, causing them to be
wider spaced. Laying the thin, sheetmetal washers on the carpeted
table, "lip" side down, I placed the rounded handle of a screwdriver on
the washer and "smacked" it with a hammer. This restored the concave
shape. I'll know if that fixed it when I reinstall the RF deck (after
other work on the main chassis is finished. But it DOES now look like
the main tuning drive that was working and spaced about the same. Before
this "mod" the space between the two washers of the bandspread drive was
very noticeably wider to the naked eye.
