Subject: Re: [Boatanchors] Wanted, Manual for Simpson 260 Series 5

  Hello Robert & Crew,

The Simpson Series 5 must be a TEXAS special "LIMITED EDITION" model . I remember predominately the Series 3 and the Series 6. I do have a lot of the different manuals and since you have perked my interest level, I'll have to take a look at my stash of meters. I used to rebuild a lot of those and the TRIPLETT 630 Series as well. When I find time I sure enjoy piecing them back together. I wonder if Simpson ever kept records of how many of each series that they made. My first meter that I purchased was a a really nice 260 Series 3 from WALTER ASH RADIO in St. Louis, Mo. when I retured from the Phillippines in October of 1963. It was a repo but in mint condition. I think I paid $29.00 or there about! I believe that I still have that meter somewhere on one of my many work benches. My main bench at the house has a 260 Series 7M.which is my favorite analog meter plus I have a TRIPLETT 630-N at the shop which I love because it can take 6 KV on both AC or DC. I have a lot of new meter front panels for the 270-M Series 3 which I have never seen floating around the surplus circles. It fits the 260 Series 3 to the "T" but without the internal component accuracy. I also have quite a few new Series 260 Series 6 XLP Meter fronts that are the box types. In any event I'll check my stash of manuals and see what I turn up. One of my thoughts on this subject was after working on these wonderful meters was that I could not believe how many variants there were in the internal electronics, layout, etc. It sure made repairing them a challenge.
