Imagine what it's like when you ARE red/green deficient, which is very  
common. When I took the physical for the army, they brought out that infernal  book 
and said, "Read the numbers." The only one I could see was on the first  
page, because it was black and white dots. Then as a backup test in case you're  
faking, they ask you, "How do you know when a traffic signal is red?" If you 
ARE  partially colorblind, you will know the answer to that question. I'm not 
totally  color blind, but I'd be lost without my ohmmeter. Even it doesn't help 
sorting  pairs in the newer telephone cable.
