[Boatanchors] Well, that got me banned immediately

Tom was 'not' removed.

Simply put: EBAY is a for profit business. Those who use it pay EBAY. Those who
use it profit. Which is fine. Those who use these lists seldom contribute a cent
to support them, Al Waller, K3TKJ owns them and he works his butt off to keep
them operating. Did you ever have to come up with the cash to pay for multiple
T1 lines? You sure can't run these lists with a cable modem people. A million
pieces of traffic per day, that is the reality.

Those who post links to an electronic auction here support EBAY, put money in
their pocket, how does Al benefit? Do they send him a percentage? No. Do they
donate to support the lists that made them money? Rarely. The lists were never
intended to be a mean sby which Hams could profit by misuse. A Ham could sell
his/her items, as in 'personal' items, on these lists. It was not meant for a
business to sell and use them for free advertising or for supporting electronic
auctions.

That is the basis for my no EBAY links policy. I am not opposed to EBAY. That is
not the issue. The issue is not using these lists to further the cause of EBAY,
or 'ANY' other auction, at Al Waller's expense and of the subscribers. If I
allow one link, soon it is two, three and before long, the whole list is a big
EBAY commercial. So people, we are not going there.

If that offends some, too bad. Al Waller actually has a list for such EBAY
stuff, why don't you go use it?

Based on similar happenings in the past and the inevitable follow-on
discussion, I think the rule is set down by the owner/operator of
QTH.net. It's his, he can set whatever rules he wants. Duane done
a good job of moderating these lists ... on this is simply the
messenger.

That said, on other lists without such draconian rules I've never
seen a problem with overwhelming postings regarding items or
activites taking place at unmentionable websites. So one could
wonder what all the stink is really about .. and why someone would
have their head bashed for one post, when a simple warning or
notice would most likely take care of the problem without generating
such unnecessary bad feelings. Nonetheless, it is what it is.
