My SX-101A has an antenna trimmer, as does the 75A-4, the NC-270, the
HQ-170A, the 390A, the 51J-3, the RME 6900, and even the Lafayette HE-80!
At one time, I pondered the same question. Perhaps the 'higher priced
receivers' have an rf amp that has 'tighter' specs as far as antenna impedance range?
One thing I find cool is that most of the old boatanchors will hold their own
(sensitivity wise) with any rice box I own........
