The ARRL has just published a very interesting article about =
preservation
efforts for the USS Missouri's radio central which may be of interest to
some on this list.

Why "render inoperable" equipment that would otherwise be useful during
decommissioning?  "A rack of R-1051G HF receivers stands in Facilities
Control No. 1, just aft of Radio Central. The ship has 16 of these rigs,
plus three Watkins-Johnson URR-74 HF receivers. All were rendered =
inoperable
when the ship was decommissioned." =20
