In series really doesn't hurt, it is when you operate
things in parallel that they can get interesting.  If
the voltage is not perfectly balanced, then one supply
can start feeding back into the other.  When in
series, the voltages add and the only thing that you
have to worry about is if the grounding through the
3rd wire will short out one of the supplies.  If the
grounds are isolated, then there will be no problems
with putting power supplies in series.
