[Boatanchors] PARTS, a word to the wise!

I am wondering as I look back over dozens of posts over the past six weeks from
you, on several lists, with a slight variation in e-mail addresses, about a
dozen+ rigs as to what is actually transpiring. Are you using the generosity of
these subscribers to fix up your own rigs, which is the reason for the list, or
are you using it to repair all of these various pieces of equipment for others
as a for profit business? There is nothing wrong with repairing rigs for profit,
but if this is what you are doing, then you should let the list subscribers know
that you are using them as a free reference library that makes you money. Then
they can decide if they desire to volunteer information or let you go look it up
elsewhere for yourself.

There is a very fine line between helping another and being exploited. I have
received nearly a dozen inquiries the past two weeks asking if you were running
a business. Your barrage of questions about so many different rigs aroused
curiosity, and understandably so.

You are not being accused of doing anything wrong or faulted in any way, but you
do need to make your motives clear to the subscribers. Then they can make up
their own mind whether to comment or not.

Now I'm not here to insult anyone. This is for your information, only!
 I'm restoring a 75A4 (it came a proverbial dog!) I ordered parts
(capacitors mainly) from an un-named well-known supplier from Arizona.
Got a pretty good deal on a bunch of .1mfd 400v mylars to replace the
infamous "black beauties" in the 'A4. I put them in., they worked
fine. There would have been no problem, but I found I had shorted
myself a couple. So off to the local electronics store I went. When I
got back I was in shock! My local supplier charged me $ .87 for the
same value. (I paid Arizona $1.37 plus shipping) Not only that but
Arizona must have been old stock 'cause they were 3 times the size of
the local ! So, I've learned just cause you order from an Internet
discount house........doesn't mean your getting a discount. Just be
carefull. I bought 10 of these things at a difference of
$5.00.....Hey, thats a Bigmac, fries and soda with a little left over!
Sure like the 'A4 though..............!!! 73, Ron
