Evening all, I am a firm beliver in double boxing of all medium to heavy
weight electronic items. I like at least a 2" crush zone between the
inner and outer box, ( preferably with semi rigid styrofoam in
between). The inner box should fit the item well or be padded to fit
tightly. I always write HEAVY and the pound weight several times on the
outer box, and provide some type of handles or handholdes for the
shipper. Some elongated upside down c slots cut in the outer box at
either end works, folding the excess or cut piece up and in to
strengthen the "handle". I have noticed that Fed Ex seems to be taking
better care of larger packages shipped to me than those from UPS, BUT
have never had a radio hurt buy UPS when the above rules were followed.
Have shipped packages up to 130 lbs. with never a problem!!! Maybe I
have been lucky but it is better to ere on the side of overpacked rather
than under. (Always pack as if you were shipping the item to yourself).
Also try to use boxes that have not been shipped in through common
carrier before, and DON'T use peanuts on any item over 20 or 30 lbs!!
Just my 2 cents worth, thanks for your time. 73, kevin kd7hew
