I am wondering if the desire to silence all transmission in time of a
possible alert or attack was an out growth of Pearl Harbor where
Japanese bombers zeroed in on radio transmissions?

As a side note, one of the rare Russian suitcase radio sets made in 1957
was designed for agents operating in North America to be used for
guiding in Russian bombers. There is a picture of this set on my web
site article on Russian Radios. The set passed through here some months
back.
