Both will last longer if you pull the rectifier filaments off and use a
separate filament tranny to light them. One common failure in those I have
seen is a 5V to HV winding short.
Check your line voltage. Many of the older rigs were not designed to operate
at the line voltages present in many homes these days. Just a few volts over
the design paramaters can cause a lot of heat and subsequent failure,
especuially where rigs are running for long periods of time.
If you have a bad tranny, check with Gary Brown [email protected]. He does a
great rewinding job at a fraction of the cose of the commercial outfits.
