Ok guys, I am showing my ignorance here but in my own defense, I never was
involved in solid state design nor had any education other than the basics and
troubleshooting.
I have a 2N3904 I was testing on my Benton Harbor IT-18 that I restored
recently. I also tested it on a DMM with transistor test feature and socket.
On the Heath, it read a beta of 8 and on the DMM it reads 142.
Now I realize that different test setups use different I and E values so there
will be a difference in the result, but what is this test worth anyway if the
result is so varied?
I was one of those guys who got all his training and licenses in the 60's and
early 70's and wanted no part of that "new" ridiculous technology. Now that I
am retired I am burning the midnight oil to learn all that I never knew about
solid state design fundamentals.
