Probably was replaced and just never hooked back up. When I saw them there were
a lot of little nit-picking problems - knob missing here, cracked escutcheon,
tubes missing. The original owner wanted $550 each for them, a bit rich for my
blood particularly when you see them in quantity (I paid $350 for mine), so I
passed. Chris cut a deal and bought the remaining sets. They're a very stout
set, just check out the cast aluminum chassis layout. Built with high quality
components and built to last. Really annoying to get the hang of tuning, but
once you do they tune like a dream. No more bandswitching.
Did he still have the URC-32 / KWT-6? 6' aluminum frame rack with a nice
Collins SSB PLL transceiver in it running a pair of 4CX250s. Separate units
that are hinged so they swing out for easy servicing and have covers held on by
two spring-loaded clips. If you wanna have a nice sounding SSB signal (and
don't mind having blower noise that approaches the level of a 707), this is the
rig to have. Just be patient when it breaks.
