Hi,

The G-813A McElroy Electronic Kayer was a photoelectric tape reader.  The ink 
lined tape passed over a lamp and was read by a photocell on the opposite 
side. It was a training aid and could drive up to 50 headsets. See Page 31 of 
the 1945 ARRL Handbook.
