Don't be so sure it is not coming from within, even with the antenna
disconnected. Most modern rigs do not recieve even strong signals with
the antenna disconected. I had a similar problem and it turned out to
be my Sony Stereo receiver.
Good luck.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Interference
I'm not sure where this should be asked but i'm experiencing a noise
on
the whole spectrum, every 100+ kcs from 3.0 mc thru 21 mc. That's as
far as i've checked. Its been there for almost a week now. I first
noticed it around 14.070 thru 14.095 where i mostly spend my time
during
the day. This goes on 24 X 7. It almost sounds like a small part of
the frequency is being swept by something. I don't really know how to
describe it.
I chased it down to between 3.0 and 3.05 mc where its really strong.
nothing below that 3870 thru 3890 (AM channels of course), dead on
7290-7293 as well and then the 20 meter band too.
What i'd like to know is if any one else could take a listen in those
areas to see if they are hearing it as well. I disconnected the
antenna
from the 990 and it goes away, of course meaning its outside. Turned
off all the electrical stuff in the house, popped CBreakers, tried
different receivers and get the same results. I'd prefer to not think
its coming from a neighbor. As i don't hear it below 3.0 mc i don't
have
a portable receiver to haul around and listen for it.
Its been a constant S-5 on 20 meters and about an S-7 at 3.0/3.05
where
its originating. ALthough down there its nothing like what i hear
when
i get up further in the spectrum.
Its perplexing and i wish i could describe it better but without some
verification from others, i'm not sure where i will find this. I've
never in 45 years of hamming heard anything like this and really don't
expect to find it locally.
Any monitoring help out there. Even my GPR-90 and ARC-5 receivers
don't
like it.
