The later D-104s have an amp in the base which requires a battery.  The early 
ones from back in the 40s were crystal elements and chances are that is what 
you have.  There is a good chance that the element is gone.

from the 40's. I do read abt 30 ohms across the element and it
has a red dot on the one lug. I can't seem to get any audio from it.
Does this require a DC supply or something???????????>>
