[Boatanchors] What is this military receiver?

It sounds like an early telemetry or similar receiver. Since it has an AFC it's
likely FM. I suspect the company later became Nems-Clarke and then DEI   (Hey
National Electrical Machie Shops = NEMS).

Later versions were the R-1031 and R-1037. The latter had plug in tuners and
discriminators and came in a variety of dash letters, A to F at least, as I
remember. The 1037s were hybrid (Nuvistor and transistor)  and a mid to late 60s
design. They were designed to IRIG specs.
