Hi Ron,

The panoramic display in the case of the SP-44 and it's commercial twin is
basically a round scope tube with a horizontal scale on a piece of green
plastic which fits in front of it. The scale in this case is calibrated
thusly: 100KHz +0- 100KHz.

The signal is displayed as a horizontal line with vertical "pips" which vary
in height according to relative signal strength. The signal you want to
listen to will appear at the 0 mark when properly tuned in and the other
signals (QRM, QRN etc) will appear off to either side.

I had one hooked to my Drake R-4A at one time, using a Panoramic Adaptor
Adaptor which appeared in a HINTS AND KINKS article in QST many years ago.
I now have both adaptors, but have not reconnected either since I moved and
rearranged the shack, also many years ago. With the renewed interest in
these things, perhaps I should arise off my you know what and get things
cooking again.

Hope this explanation will help from another OM who just went on Medicare the
first of the month!

John
