The 5Y3 series does not have the voltage nor the
current capabilities of the 5U4 series. Thus,
depending on the circuit, it "might" be possible to
replace the 5U4 with a 5Y3, but only if the current
draw is within the specifications of the 5Y3 and if
the voltage is within the specifications.
The 5Y3 was very common in receivers of the 1950s that
had up to 7 or 8 tubes. The 5U4 was used in virtually
all black & white televisions of the 1950s and had
higher voltage and current capabilities from the 5Y3.
