Indeed, it is a marine callsign. I used to have one that was a "WXX and 4 digits".
Can't remember the digits now. This was common in radiotelephone only vessels. Most
ships (USA) were given a four letter callsign Like KRDG or WCAM etc. This was used
on
the CW bands as well as the radiotelephone bands. Old aircraft radiotelegraph
callsigns
were 5 letters. Radiotelegraph was used for long range position reprts etc. for
aircraft
going outside the range of VHF back in the days when a radio operator was carried.
I remember one chap who worked for TWA and another who worked for Pan American
who were both operators on the over ocean flights.

| On the front of this Pierce Simpson model 55 marine transciever is a plate that
| says "WRZ3175". Is this a marine call sign? It certainly appears to be put there
| by the factory. Thanks.
