Hi Blake,

The following article from Worldradio
(http://www.wr6wr.com/newSite/index.html) is a must-read for BARC
members who have even a glimmer of interest in public safety and public
service through Ham Radio.

Katrina?s Lessons

"Hurricane Katrina brought unprecedented havoc to many states. It
challenged responders at all levels of government as well as
non-government responder organizations. Much criticism has been
directed at the response, particularly by those who suffered the most.
While little, if any, criticism has been directed at the Amateur Radio
community it is my belief that we need to be our own worst critics. ..."

The opinions expressed in this article call for a change in the way we
conduct our emcomm work for large-scale disasters or call-outs. I
recommend you also forward it to Mark Duff, Rob Macedo, and Mike
Neilsen. Given the discussion at the business meeting last week, this
might be a time to distinguish BARC as a public safety oriented group
and, maybe, split off the traditional Hamming/communications/DX/etc
activities. Maybe we should refer such members to other clubs and
remain a dedicated, small group. What do you think???

Would you please post this to the BARC List. (I am unable to do so --
my netscape mail is rejected.)

73,
ERIC
